Me and my family went there with apparently my 10 year old adult. Cuz that is the price that my 10 year old got charged and on the weekend the price is more like $25 per person and up not including alcohol which you pay extra.

The food is good. Great selection. Clean restaurant. Nice ambiance. I will definitely come back again.

Everything's nicee from the hot meals to desserts I was a happy man when I left

It's hard to find a quality buffet now and days. However, maybe a quality buffet is something of the past, and now only an oxymoron. When I first ate at Moonstar 5 years ago, I remember the food being pretty decent, and they had a good variety of sashimi and sushi. However, the food quality has gone downhill.We came on a Saturday afternoon at 1:30pm, and apparently weekends are filled with kid's parties- red egg parties, birthdays, etc. There are a ton of kids running around, so be careful not to trip over one! I think Moonstar provided a face painter for the kids, which was nice. We came for a red egg party, and it was very organized- you tell them the name of your party, and they give you a ticket and wristband and point you in the direction of the tables with colored balloons. However, the tickets we were given were meaningless! First, we were told you could use it to get lobster or steak, but then one of the staff members told us the tickets were just for headcount purposes. I think they ran out of the "special item", which is BS. I tried a variety of things, and split them into different categories below. Pictures of some of the items start here (http://www.yelp.com/biz_…).Pretty good: Fried Shrimp, Longanisa, Clams, Xiao Long Bao (not authentic but good, except the second piece I had the dough tasted a bit underdone), Seaweed Salad, General Tso's ChickenDecent: Salmon & Hamachi Nigiri (choose the salmon carefully, and don't eat all the rice b/c it's super gummy and dense), Super White Tuna Sashimi (choose carefully), Har Gow, Grilled Chicken Wing, Grilled Sparerib (a little dry though), Mango & Green Tea Ice CreamsGross: Salmon Rectangle Sushi Roll (there was a slice of American cheese in this.. straight weird), Siu Mai (pork was not quality), Cooked Crab (the meat was mushy and bitter), Pig's Feet (not tender enough), all the cake type desserts (overly sweet and mushy consistency)One thing Moonstar has going for them is their variety- there were a TON of different items to choose from, and they restocked them frequently. It's just too bad that the taste and quality are so mediocre. Also, the soda cups they give you are really small, so you have to continually go back to the machine to refill your drink. It would be nicer if they cut down on some of the items and focused on making some of the dishes better- especially the desserts. The little cake pieces they had were borderline disgusting! I didn't bother with the chocolate fountain, but a lot of people seemed to like that, and also the cotton candy.Overall, this is a good place to go for variety of items if you are in the buffet mood, but I won't be back anytime soon. Lunch on the weekends will run you $18.88/person. Parking in their lot was jam packed, but there are spots in front of some of the other establishments in that same complex.

I usually rate buffets by the amount of seafood that looks and tastes fresh and this one is pretty good. They have crab legs (less meat than Hokkaido) and sushi--they even have Tobiko nigiri (not smelt!)Good if you have to entertain Chinese people who hate waiting even 10 minutes for their food. Just bring them here and turn them loose:)

(See pics) Review #1315. Similar to Kome but less busy, so a bit less chaotic. Lots of seafood and other cuisines such as Indian and not just Chinese. The chocolate fondue was the signature of dipping the marshmallow to make the double sugar dessert. The seafood, sushi, Asian food.

Great variety of buffet food. All ranging from sushi, to dim sum, and traditional Chinese style lunch & dinner dishes. Your eyes will definitely be bigger than your stomach but its worth trying everything. The service is great. They come around every 10-15 mins with the place being packed full of parties. I recommend if you're planning on having a little pow wow with family or friends!

We used to always go to the Moonstar that was in Downtown San Francisco until they closed. We went about 2-3 times a year or so, especially for huge family gatherings because they had a bunch of seating and everyone could be satisfied with whatever they want because they could grab whatever they want.I actually came here twice for two birthdays back to back some years ago and it was pretty cool, that is until I grew really sick of buffets. It's great if you can get your money's worth (as a frugal person) but it's really hard to. A majority of the times I come here I'm after the sushi bar and their assortment of rolls and what not, however their sushi bar isn't as big as some other places. I don't usually hit the Chinese food because I have way too much of it so another perk for me is the desert bar. I like their ice cream and all their little snacks and would even make a chocolate spoon just for the hell of it.All in all this place has a good assortment of food and variety but there's nothing that pops at me going WOW.

I went here for dinner last night with a bunch of relatives, and I was surprised how quickly we got seated. It was a Thursday night, and we were a table of 10.This buffet isn't as big or extensive as some of the other buffets in the Bay Area I've tried, but it's not about quantity, now, is it? It's quality that always counts to me, and the quality at this buffet was pretty well executed, ESPECIALLY when it comes to their sushi. Now, the rolls are that creative or whatever, but the freshness of the fish was what got me. I feel like that's all I talk about when I review sushi is the freshness of the fish, but in my opinion, that's the most important thing to discuss!! The escolar was awesome. In fact, the only thing they had with escolar on it was california rolls topped with escolar, so I got those and just took the escolar pieces off and ate them sashimi-style. The hamachi sashimi was also very fresh and buttery. They had loads of salmon sashimi also, but I didn't try it since I'm not a big salmon sashimi fan. The tuna was also savory and delicious.The rest of the buffet was pretty limited, but what I tried was awesome. There's a noodle soup bar where you choose your type of noodle (thin egg noodle, round rice noodle, or wide rice noodle) and your toppings (dumplings, wontons, beef balls, fish balls, thousand-year-old eggs) and they make you a bowl of customized noodle soup. The broth was bland, but a spoonful of chili paste made it all better. Also worth mentioning, their hot and sour soup was really good. I'm kind of picky when it comes to this soup, so it was a pleasant surprise to see that they made it right.Crab legs aren't in season, so they were a bit on the skinny side, but I was still able to get quite a bit of meat out of mine and enjoy them.Soda was free. Also, our waitress was very attentive. She came around refilling our hot tea even after our check was paid for!All in all, this buffet was a great experience. I hope my relatives bring me back here the next time I visit!

Hmmm...what can I say except Kome is better? Both of these places are around the same price at dinner time but Kome had better sushi and more seafood options. The only seafood Moonstar had were crab legs and shrimp. Makes sense since this restaurant is much smaller, so they have a smaller sushi table and less food choices..Moonstar also didn't have alot of fruit or dessert options. After I've stuffed myself with 20 crab legs, I kinda crave some fruit or dessert. They just had the standard square cakes that all taste the same.For the price, there are other better buffets out there.

Quantity far superseded their quality, however its typical with buffet dining. But Hey! what should I have expected for a buffet, especially an Asian buffet? I can now say been there done-that and for sure wont be back! Especially after the cashier of all people demanded a tip (and for what?). Why should I tip at a buffet? I serve myself thanks anyways! but that's my understanding of the buffet concept. There was no customer service other than seating us and bringing the check. No one ever came around to check on us.Definitely had a nice variety and quantity of food and deserts for the $22 a person all you can eat tab (not including alcohol.) Decent selection of cocktail seafood for starters. Plethora of prawns, crab, crayfish: you must be willing to put fourth the effort in cracking and picking. Followed by extremely bland and overly greasy fried rice and noodles. Sushi was rock bottom of the barrel, even the imitation crab CA roll was lousy. The udon, pot-sticker and noodle counter that prepares to order was average. Nice selection and array of deserts include basic ice cream, chocolate fountain to dip marshmallows or rice-crispies treats, and various small pieces of cake with other sweets. I noticed they would prepare you a cotton candy like the fair but opted out of trying it.The overall ambiance is exciting and loud with a nice looking bar and good looking cool displayed wine selection. The food looks decent and is presented very well but is sub par. The posted pictures on yelp lured us in but the food does not taste nearly as good as it looks in pictures. As far as service goes, what service?... I couldn't even understand the hostess as she greeted us at the door hardly speaking any English. I was shocked upon departure after paying the bill that the cashier approached us following us to the door and demanded a tip. (Disclaimer: believe me I know good quality and of service and am willing to pay for it.) This place lacks both.

I don't know what hell everyone's talking shit about buffets.I freakin' love em!They're fun, interactive, and you get a work out (walking around gawking at all the food!).I actually eat buffet meals, everyday, at my work. We have all-you-can-eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at my office. It's mostly all healthy, so once in a while-- I like to splurge.Both sides of my family loves Asian buffets. Whether it's after a wedding, a baptism, birthday, or funeral-- it's to the buffet we adjourn!I'm a fat ass, so OKAY! Lessgo! (90lb fat ass).Selection:Holy mother of god. They have it all! Seafood galore, Dim Sum, Chinese, Sushi, Thai, Noodle bar, choc fondue, even a freakin' cotton candy machine!Any buffet with a cotton candy machine is a winner.Taste:I was born with copious amounts of MSG in my blood (being that I am Filipino).But, these days I am allergic to MSG, because of how "healthy" I eat or at least try.I didn't taste MSG in the food.I didn't feel dehydrated, cotton-mouthed, thirstied, and didn't get a killer migraine-- 30 min after dinner.The food tasted pretty delicious.Ambience:Nice. Very Asian.A huge restaurant with a plethora of tables.Price:Hell if I know, I never have to pay! (I always go with family).But, I heard it's about $20/person for dinner. (Don't quote me on that).I had fun Instagramming the shit out of the buffet, until some worker told me I wasn't allowed to take pics. Uh and that's why I docked off one star.

After frequenting Vegas buffets, I like buffets less and less in general. The average quality of the mass of buffets out there inevitably never measure up unless you are at Crowne Plaza for brunch (Check the one in Foster City for my review.)I came here on a Friday for lunch. They gave us crappy seating on the edge of the area where people are lining up to get sushi. They charge 18% gratuity for a party of 6 or more. It seems the type of people that come in here don't tip well or at all. That's understandable. However, I'd expect some average service of bussing empty dishes at least.The choice of foods here is smaller than Kome in Daly City, but really how much variety do you need or can one possibly consume in one setting? I prefer to walk out of a buffet than roll. I like the soup noodles station. You pick your egg noodles, or rice noodles and add dumplings, or meat. Then, you top it off with green onions on top. They have some rice porridge here too with the Chinese donuts. It's all fresh.They had some black bean clams which I enjoyed in an average kind of way. The snow crab legs were dry and a waste of my time. (too much work for a sliver of meat) I'm not much of a dessert person, but they had a decent selection of pastries, ice cream and cookies. They have a cotton candy machine here but only turn it on during weekends when the place is flooded with brats. I promise never to come then. It was already a little annoying on a Friday afternoon. Some people mill around the buffet oblivious of others around them scoping the food while picking off their plate. The seating is pretty close together too. -not my cup of tea to be dining with an adjacent party when out to eat... Speaking of tea, they serve robust and flavorful jasmine tea here as much as your little heart desires. All beverages are a part of the deal.Moonstar was just what I expected. It only surpassed my expectation in the bathroom. I didn't have to hold my breath! It was sanitary and kept up unlike the resident putrid stench of urine permeating as soon as you open the restroom door at Kome.

I don't expect too much from a typical Chinese-ish buffet, and the Moonstar Restaurant is no exception.Aside from the variety of choices, there isn't much to say about a buffet joint like this one. Food is mediocre, but good enough for those that do not live near those fancy ones that are found in Vegas. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. They even brought us our drinks upon request several times despite the fact that there is a soda dispenser near the entrance.The only downside was how dirty the women's restroom was. Even though there was someone who came out with a spray bottle and some cleaning supplies, the restroom looked the same.

I went with a HUGE GROUP, like it took up 3 rows of tables, so the ambiance I was in was awesome.I think this is the first buffet place I had to wait in the lobby for, but I got really excited when I saw all the food. Just don't forget to gawk at their wine selection. The layout of the wine is pretty interesting, yet it makes me feel short. It looked like a 10 ft high wall that was concave with the wine bottles cascading down in rows by type of wine.The food selection varied from asian, italian, american and they also had their own desserts section. The chocolate fountain sold me on the spot. They had marshmallows, strawberries and bananas there. Some of the food did look a bit rubber-y, so I kept my distance at certain spots. I have to recommend the oyster that has cheese on it. I'm sorry I don't remember the name, but I've been looking for that dish for the longest time and I'm soo happy to know where I can get it now!Their selection is very diverse, so you won't see your usual asian buffet food here. I believe you can make your own pho/ramen/udon there, the sushi is not stale and the rice wasn't hard, and they also make hand rolled sushi for you there as well. I will be returning here... when I can!

So I finally got in here. I've been meaning to check out Moonstar for a very long time, because I've heard that if they use MSG, it is probably very minimal.All I wanted was to get a to-go order of pork chow mein and some kind of shrimp dish for my mother, so the cashier handed me a couple of to-go containers and explained I'd be charged by the pound. OK, so far, so good.Unfortunately for me, I couldn't find chow mein anywhere. There was some kind of Italian linguine dish, which struck me as odd for a Chinese buffet, and there were Asian noodles, but no chow mein to be found anywhere. I suppose I could have grabbed some noodles and added pork and vegetables and wound up with something vaguely resembling chow mein, but I don't think it would have been quite the same.As for shrimp, there was a choice of shrimp with all their legs and shells still attached, which I'm sure would have disgusted my mother, or there were copious amounts of cold cocktail shrimp. Neither of which would have satisfied her appetite for lemon prawns or garlic prawns or whatever.So anyway, I wound up taking a pass on the whole affair and handing the to-go containers back to the cashier.If I'd been in the mood for a sit-down-and-eat situation, however, I would have found a lot to like here. The selection of appetizers, main courses, side dishes, and desserts was truly bewildering, and everything was presented in a way that was unique and visually appealing. Furthermore, high standards of cleanliness were evident everywhere.Overall, this place did not have the kind of low-rent look or feel one normally associates with all-you-can-eat buffets. I'm giving it five stars because I figure it would be pretty lame of me to hurt their average star rating when I haven't actually tasted the food. I'm sure I'll be back soon, and I'm sure I will eat myself into a stupor.

I usually have an aversion to Chinese buffets due to a previous bad experience but this restaurant did not disappoint. They're food is really good and fresh. I always try to eat as much as I can but I get too full. My favorites are the sweet and sour chicken, fried rice, egg rolls, and of course the ice cream bar and chocolate fondue. I highly recommend going here.I do have to take off a star for the layout of the restaurant. It's completely packed to accommodate as many people as possible. There is an upside to this though, more people means fresher food. Their prices for the take out is ridiculously high so be sure to dine it.

No. I hate hair in food. So freaking gross. I was done at that point.Although I will admit some of their hot food is decent, their sushi is a complete fail. The sashimi is not fresh at all and the rice for the rolls is really gluey. They have brunch items (French toast, waffles, bacon, sausage) which aren't too bad.The tables are pretty close to each other. there is no way two people can walk side by side or pass each other. It's seriously a maze trying to navigate to the food and back to your table.

I didn't like this buffet place. The sushi was terrible since there was no flavor. The cut of the raw fish was not good. There was a lot of variety in the hot section. However, the seafood in the hot section wasn't great. The only thing that I did like was the vegetables dished, such as eggplant, a stir fried mixed vegetables, and yams. The green tea ice cream was also good. I didn't stop by the omelet or the porridge/noodle stations. Kids will like the cotton candy and the fondue chocolate fountain. For lunch, there was a line, but it wasn't as busy as I expected.I was glad that I didn't get food poisoning from here.

If you hungry, If you are hungry for sea food, a lot of sea food, then this place is for you. Great asian food, fresh sashimi and crabs, free soda and coffee. ...?

Over all my experience, the place is above average for the price that you paid. nice and cozy, easy to reach foods, customer services are okay and do not expect much seafoods.?

Great food! Everything was fresh, tastes great and good service. I'll be having my red egg party here in pretty soon because my loved it here so much. Must try out if you havent already.
