Moonstar Restaurant

Moonstar is an exquisite upscale seafood buffet restaurant located in Daly City, California, and is far from your typical Chinese buffet. The spacious establishment features seating for over 500 guests and an exhibition-style kitchen easily viewed from the dining room. Li constructed the restaurant from the ground up and was involved in all aspects of the architectural and interior design process. The modern décor is brightened by a coloring scheme of red, yellow and purple that is enhanced by an open ceiling skylight. In a departure from convention Asian restaurants, the tables are customized with different galaxy themes which give customers a delightful outer space experience. The casual and friendly atmosphere is enhanced by flat-screen televisions that surround the dining area for customers’ dining entertainment. While Moonstar has played a number of different musical genres in the past, currently the light atmosphere is enhanced by energetic Spanish music.

While Vegas-style buffet establishments simply put out new food when items run out, Moonstar prepares their food fresh and only offers top-selling products. Moonstar discontinues items that are not popular among customers, thus their menu is ever-evolving and is specialized to their customers. Li strives to provide high-quality products at an affordable and reasonable price. Staff members constantly update and remodel all aspects of the restaurant to further satisfy customers’ needs.

The menu’s repertoire has a broad selection of cuisine, including appetizers, tapas, salads, sushi, hot and cold seafood, a carving station, noodle bar, wok station, charcoal grill, and fruits and desserts. Each cuisine is carefully prepared and could rival a specialty restaurant’s expertise and detail.

The sushi bar features eclectic and colorful rolls for a diverse palate while the charcoal grill is fast, exciting, and offers a great selection of meats. Moonstar offers five-star quality foods by utilizing the freshest and highest quality products and ingredients. This passion for great ingredients means that from melon slices to udon noodles, the diner will have fresh and tasty ingredients to choose from.

Of course, Moonstar is perhaps best known for its seafood. Daily deliveries from foreign and local seas ensure the customer has a great selection of finely prepared seafood. One of Moonstar’s signature dishes is the abalone entrée, featuring fresh abalone topped with oyster sauce and Moonstar’s house special sauce. Another signature entrée is the crab fish featuring fresh crab prepared with bamboo steamers, cooked with vermicelli bean thread noodles, topped with ginger, onion, Tianjin vegetables and the house’s special sauce.

Not only does Moonstar have five-star caliber entrees but many would argue their desserts warrant an additional star. Moonstar’s signature dessert dish is the Chocolate Fountain, which features a waterfall of layered chocolate with cherry and rice crackers. It’s a great finish to a thoroughly delicious meal.
